Laureate 2012

Andy Taylor got involved in the automotive business at an early age, washing cars during summer and holiday vacations and learning the business from the ground up at the company his father Jack Taylor founded in 1957. Andy continued his education at the University of Denver, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1970. Following graduation, he worked for three years outside of the family business before returning to Enterprise. Andy became General Manager of the company's St. Louis regional operations in 1976 and was named President and Chief Operating Officer in 1980.
Today Andy's company, now called Enterprise Holdings, operates the Alamo Rent A Car, National Car Rental and Enterprise Rent-A-Car brands. With annual revenues exceeding $14 billion and more than 70,000 employees, Enterprise Holdings is the most comprehensive service provider in the U.S. car rental industry. Ranked No. 15 on the Forbes list of America's Largest Private Companies, Enterprise Holdings' revenues also place the company near the top of the travel industry, exceeding many airlines and most cruise lines, hotels, tour operators and online travel agencies.
In 2011, Andy was one of four recipients of the Travel Weekly Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to members of the travel community who have made outstanding contributions to their organizations and to the industry as a whole. In addition, he was inducted into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders in 2009.
Andy also plays an active role in the St. Louis community. He is a Trustee of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra; Trustee of Washington University in St. Louis; Life Trustee of the Missouri Botanical Garden; Director of Commerce Bancshares; former member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater St. Louis; and past President of Civic Progress.
