Steven Craig Roberts, third generation St. Louisian, fourth generation Missourian, was born on April 11, 1952. He was active in sports and school extracurriculum activities as a student in the St. Louis Public Schools. Steve was student body president, newspaper columnist and head of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, while attending Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. He traveled throughout the country and internationally to further his knowledge. He received a Juris Doctorate Degree (JD), and Master of Laws Degree (LLM), specializing in urban law and urban development at Washington University School of Law. Steve became involved with local politics in the City of St. Louis, which led to his being elected to the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. He was the youngest aldermanic member to serve on this elective body, along with his brother Michael. Steve and his brother became business partners. Their business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit enabled their partnership to maximize opportunities, resulting in a multi-faceted group of businesses. Their business and real estate holdings are national in scope. They have purchased and renovated historic properties all in downtown St. Louis including the Historic Mayfair Hotel, The Old American Theatre (known as The Roberts Orpheum Theatre) and the old Board of Education Building (renamed Roberts Lofts on the Plaza). Steven is continuing to lead the development efforts to create a new Roberts Hotel chain, new residential and mixed use retail space in North St. Louis City to compliment their headquarters at The Victor Roberts Building on N. Kingshighway Blvd. Steve attributes his moral character and sense of responsibility to his parents, Victor and Delores Roberts. They demonstrated the results of hard work, having a loving family, and solid guidance. His parents taught him to give back to the community and society that has given so much to him.
